The 'Life of Riley' phrase originates in the 1880's and is an idiom for a luxurious, carefree and easy existence. It implies a life of leisure without responsibilities or financial worries.
When everything is going well my wife and I often smugly and gleefully call each other Riley. Inevitably some kind of disaster will then follow and spiral, such is life. But for the moments that we are Riley, life is wonderful.
